And with serious data-protection features, the ability to keep annoying ads away, and the option to use your favorite search engine, there’s almost no reason not to give Vivaldi a go. But casual users will love Vivaldi as well because they can get rid of the bells and whistles and keep things as minimalist as they want. Power users can make Vivaldi look and function any way they want, which gives it a real edge for people who carry out their work life online. Vivaldi gives other leading browsers a true competitor, as it appeals to users of all kinds. And it has more safety features than many browsers offer, thanks to its ad and tracker blocking and its anti-data-collection approach. For example, both Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox lack specialty tab grouping and viewing. Vivaldi has a lot of features that leading browsers don’t have, particularly those that have to do with how you customize your browser. Vivaldi is available on Android, Linux, Mac, and Windows. For example, I had the two-level tab option selected but could not figure out how to actually show two levels of tabs, no matter how many I opened. Vivaldi supports a manual option which gives users full control over the feature, but is less convenient than an automated option. It is the only browser that supports setting different intervals before the feature kicks in and a list of exclusions. In a way, Vivaldi has almost too many options, particularly when you’re first getting your browser set up. Microsofts Edge browser is the clear winner when it comes to tab freezing / sleeping functionality. On the bottom toward the right, you can take a screenshot, tile your pages a few different ways, decide how you want images and videos to behave, and select/deselect a bunch of page actions. I will admit that Im not thrilled with the update checker being a separate process that runs even after Vivaldi is closed, but I still want to be explicitly notified and asked for permission before any updates take place on my system. On the left, you can see your bookmarks, downloads, history, notes, windows, etc. Personally, I prefer my updates not be silent and fully automatic. The icons are unobtrusive and put everything you might need in easy reach. That said, there’s a ton you can do from the browser without opening up settings or using shortcuts, with icons along the left and bottom that offer lots of functionality. Vivaldi is also available for Android Automotive and currently runs on Polestar and Renault vehicles. You can customize your browser further by accessing the Page Actions menu at the bottom of your browser window (Image credit: Vivaldi) The Android version is still at version 5.3, but the stable version 5.4 for mobile is most likely a few days away. The Pale Moon browser does not work completely with modern desktop Facebook, a good many modern banking sites, GitHub (only partially - assets can be difficult to access), and its single process, so while Pale Moon is struggling to render one of those tricky modern pages, it holds up activity on the rest of the browser. In addition to the gestures and web panel changes mentioned earlier, the list of Vivaldi 5.4 highlights also includes the ability to copy links to a certain area of a page instead of the default landing area (after highlighting a certain part of a page, the user simply needs to use the "Copy Link to Highlight" option), a new security feature that automatically upgrades all navigation to HTTPS while displaying alerts each time a website does not support this security feature, as well as a fine-tuned Vivaldi Mail, which moves up to version 1.1 alongside the integrated Calendar and Feed Reader tools. 28 and, as usual, desktop users on Windows, macOS, and Linux can all take advantage of this refreshed piece of code. Version 5.4 comes with bug fixes, minor tweaks, as well as a few noticeable changes, such as the ability to customize rocker gestures and to mute sound in web panels. Earlier today, Vivaldi Technologies released a new stable version of its flagship product, namely Vivaldi Browser.
